Does Hardy Nickerson have even an outside chance at Canton next year?

Saw a graphic on ESPN about next year's possible class, and it's one of the weaker groups I've seen. Only Chris Carter and Darrell Green are shoe-ins. Nickerson is as strong a contender as any of the other first-time guys.

Does he have a legit chance to make it in next year? Or ever?

Hardy Nickerson (1987 - 2002)

225 Games
1585 Tackles
21 Sacks
19 Forced Fumbles
12 INTs

4 Times Pro Bowl

Herdy definitey deserves to be in the HOF. He had a great career playing on one of the worst teams in the nfl. imagine what he could have done had he spent his career on a different team...

If Irvin got in then evertbody should be in, Nickerson, Bert Emanuel, Reidel Anthony, , heck why not Horace Copeland and Danny Peebles too?

I am not sure if Nickerson will get in, I highly doubt it. Do I think he deserves to yes, but not over Derrick Thomas.

Nickerson was a fine LB. He is not worthy of the Hall, IMO. If you look at the LB's in the Hall, Nickerson isn't in that class.

The different team would have realized his name is Hardy Nickerson, not Herdy. That is if you meant #56 that played for the BUCS.

HOF. I would love to think so. Good Luck Hardy Nick!!!!

Yes, I misspelled a name, you will find that isn't such an uncommon thing on these boards to be typing and throw in either a rong letter, or an extra letter. Not all of us have to hunt and peck to make a statement on the keyboard, so typos do happen.

Mike Singletary
1,488 career tackles
12 fumble recoveries
7 interceptions

**** Butkus
22 ints.

JACK LAMBERT
28 int's
8 sacks

LAWRENCE TAYLOR
9 int.
142 sacks WOW! (9.5 weren't recorded his rookie year as they were not an officially recorded stat. But I included those also)

RAY NITSCHKE
25 ints

SAM HUFF
30 int.

HARRY CARSON
11 ints.
8 sacks

Unless you are talking about LT, I would say that Nickerson's stats are comparable to NFL linebackers in the hall of fame.

He was a great player here and well respected around the league. But you can never tell with the selection commitee. I still cant explain why ART MONK isnt in. I have to disagree on the Michael Irvin comment, He was one of the most consistant and feared WR in his time and wasnt called the PLAYMAKER just for kicks. Plus 3 rings and the triplets were a great dynasty, he should of been a 1st ballot HOF but the off field occurances got him out...........GO BUCS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hardy was a great teacher of work ethic as Brooks would say

Hardy's best chance might be via the Veteran's com. in a few years.

Hardy would make a great addition to the HOF.

But, Derrick Thomas needs to go into the HOF next year.
Except for the car wreck that ended his career, he would
have been a 1st ballot HOF.

You do realize he played 6 years with the Steelers before he came to the bucs right? The Steelers were not a bad team at al when he was there.

Stats are not as important to getting in the HOF as most think, HOF voters will tell you that they put these guys to the "smell test", that is when it comes time to vote, do they "smell" like a HOFer or don't they and sorry, unless you are from Tampa, Hardy doesn't.

Hardy was a great player, and he's the reason I became a Bucs fan as a young lad. I really hope to see him in the HOF, but he's really borderline. Certainly not first ballot. That '99 defense that he led was on par with our 2003 defense, if not better.

As much as I like Hardy, if he gets in, the HOF will have been degraded and become the hall of the very good.

It was said earlier in the thread that his stats weren't up to par with the HOF'ers. I was just showing that they are.

But again, his stats are comparable with the HOF linebacker group.

And as was said above, 4 probowls, and a season with over 200 tackles.

Homer or not, he's good enough to at least be considered.
