Jeff George to Atlanta!?

ESPN has Jeff George being another candidate for Atlanta's backup job. It says Petrino is interested in his cheapness and experience, but mainly his ability to play for the league min. Sorry if this has been posted but I didn't see anything about it, but how awesome would it be for Vick to go down and have Jeff George taking snaps, this is such a dumb move. It also says Chris Redman signed Thursday but doesn't look to compete.

Petrino is starting off on the wrong foot. Redman is a joke and doesnt deserve to be on the roster...(ex-louisville QB). George, do I really have to say anything?

I thought for sure the falcons finally landed a good coach...looks like I was wrong

I think it was a mistake in the first place to trade Matt Schaub. He is a real quarterback with all the tools to succeed in the NFL. Vick obviously is very talented, but he has yet to prove that he is worthy of being a starting quarterback, in my opinion. His passing stats scream mediocrity, and it reflects on the teams record over the past few years.

Much like the mistake Spurrier made with bringing Shane Matthews and Danny Wuerffel to the Skins.

Rattay will be fine there, but I can't understand the continued interest in Jeff George.

If anyone can make fun of a teams coaching ideas due to experience, it's surely a Bucs fan.

This is what happens when you invest all your money in a fullback and an over-the-hill wideout. I am really loving this.

I am starting to think that Jeff George will always be in this league, no matter how far down the depth chart he is at quarterback.

Can the Falcons not find any other inexpensive QB with some experience that has thrown at least one touchdown pass since 2000?!

I think Atlanta got a good deal with those draft picks from Houston, but i still think they not only traded the wrong guy, but i think they should have thought better about who their backup would be. I mean Jeff George?? I heard yesterday they're also looking at Anthony Wright and maybe Jeff Blake??? Mike Vick better stay healthy or it could get ugly in Atlanta.

How funny would it be for him to go down and have Jeff George taking snaps, I don't think our defense could take him seriously

And while our defense is laughing, BOOM, 90 yard bomb.

It's... genius.

I'm sure he still has a lrocket arm, but he probably doesn't have the accuracy to keep the ball in the field of play. . .

You Bucs fans are so friggin credulous. Just because Len Pasquarelli has a writing quota to meet and throws out a story that is pure speculation, you now think that "Boy" George is headed to the ATL.

Quote:
And while it remains a long shot to even suggest that the Falcons actually might consider George, who hasn't been on an NFL roster in three years, McKay apparently didn't dismiss it out of hand.
If McKay didn't dismiss that proposition, it was only because some things are just too ridiculous to comment on. We'll sooner see Ryan Leaf as a backup QB in San Diego before we'll again see George in a Falcons uniform.

Redman's going to compete to be their 3rd stringer. They signed a solid backup in Rattay. Redman is going to help teach Vick and Rattay the offense. Not much more to it than that. It'd be like if we signed Tuisasosopo to a one year, vet mininum deal to compete with Gradkowski and McCown, so he could help teach the offense.

Anyway, I think giving up on Bobby Petrino because he signed a 3rd string QB is probably a little much.

Everyone keeps talking about how the Falcons traded the wrong QB. I have to disagree. Mike Vick HAS to start on that team. They have 100 million invested in him, a large portion of that is guaranteed. Meaning, if they trade him, they eat the rest of that money. Financially, impossible move to make. Shaub showed he has some skills at the NFL level, but has he proven anything? Mike Vick can win you games and while he's not the most accurate passer in the game, he has done a heck of a lot more than Shaub has in this league.

The Falcons made the only move they could make and got something for Shaub before he booked next off-season anyway. The Falcons have too many holes to invest more money into nothing more than a backup QB.

So far, good moves made by the Falcons. Could they have brought a better backup in to compete, sure, but, as far as the Shaub trade is concerned, I think the Falcons did everything right.

Flush $100 mil down your toilet, does that make it worth more money?

The salary cap ramifications of cutting Vick are prohibitive, but do you believe the Falcons are going to win anything with him there? How long do you stick by a mistake? How many wasted seasons are acceptable when justifying a bad move?

2007 6000000.00
2008 7500000.00
2009 9000000.00
2010 10500000.00
2011 12000000.00
2012 12500000.00
2013 13500000.00
From the look of that base contract. I would say they give him through 2009, after that, they may be forced to ditch him. Atlanta is close to cap trouble already, in a couple of years they will have satan's throne in cap hell.

Maybe they could work out a restructure or something...I just have a hard time with the notion that you hand a job to a guy who will never take you to the next level because of cap considerations. Through 2009 means three more seasons for them.

If this was happening on the Bucs, and we were keeping - and continuing to bet our franchise on - a limited QB because of cap considerations, I'd be enraged.

If Vick has another inconsistent, losing year with Petrino, by this time 2008 more in Atlanta will be calling for his head than not.

We have Rice on our team, taking up a huge amount of cap space, coming off an injury, and another year older and slower...

i'm more curious as to why they didn't pursue Marcus Vick? he's basically just like big brother, but doesn't scramble so well, so he actually had to rely on the pocket.. i'm asuming he is a little (not saying he's any better but better than Vick with his pocket presence?) who knows with two Vicks on the team maybe they'll put two and two together and still have one brain short of a competant QB.
