sorry if he has been discussed here before but can anyone shed some light on him. I know he was a top 1st round pick around 4 years ago but thats about it....AND MORE IMPORTANTLY WHAT PICK DID WE PAY FOR HIM. He was not even on the Bench for the Chiefs last season so anything more than a 6th or 7th would suck.

I don't think it's been publically released what pick it was, or if it has been, I totally missed it. If it's more than a 7th/conditional 6th, Bruce Allen should be kicked in the shins.
Sims was a total, complete bust in KC, but I have to say this: so was almost every other D-lineman they've drafted the last few years. Anyone remember Eddie Freeman, Junior Siavii, or Eric Downing? They have not been able to develop ANYBODY. The lone exception is Jared Allen, but he has other issues. Anyway, I'm willing to give Sims an itsy bitsy grain of doubt because of this. Let's see how he responds to a real defensive coach. |

Supposedly Sims' contract was restructured to the at/around $750K/1 year. It is basically a risk free try-out for the Bucs, which I don't think Sims will pass. He is not likely to make the final roster.

We paid whatever his remaining bases are for him.
NFLPA.org is best to find that info

As a Bronco fan, I have watched this guy for the last few years. He has talent, but is extremely inconsistent from play to play game to game, kind of like Gerrard Warren for DEN. Both were high draft picks that have never played like it consistently.
He certainly has the physical talent, but when Herm Edwards took over the personal investment in him was lost. He is a veteran DT that can supply depth, and if he gets motivated push to start. I would say the chances of him doing that are slim, but his biggest issues are injuries and mental. That can be improved with a change in attitude and this may be his last chance. Coyer has worked wonders in Denver with retread DL players like Warren, Courtney Brown, Bert Berry, Ebenezer Ekuban, Kenard Lang, Darius Holland, Mario Fatefehi, and the like. In fact, in 2003 he started Holland and Fatefehi at DT after both were acquired during Training camp cuts as street FA's. His defense was top 4 overall and top 3 against the run before they started their second string defense against GB in the finale and allowed 263 yards rushing to a desperate team that needed a win to make the playoffs. So, he has proven he can make marginal Players productive on the DL. With that being said, Sims definitely has a chance to play for the Bucs. Coyer also played against him in the AFC West, so he knows what he will be getting to work with as a DL. |

When Hovan came over from Minnesota he was considered a bust. He had played a few god years but eventually faded out at the end of his tenure. In the right scheme in Tampa he has been a strong force in clogging up the middle. He'll never be the sack guy Sapp was but he has done a good job so far.
Maybe Kiffin can get some life out of Sims despite his poor showing over the past few years. |
