18-0 v 18-0

If both New Orleans and Indy are able to run the table and meet in the Super Bowl, would the winner be considered the greatest team ever?

Not particularly... Too many variables to consider. They would automatically go down in history as being the first team to go 19-0, but you'll have to consider all aspects of their game. For instance, the Colts and Saints defense are nowhere near the top of anyones list of "best defense ever".

True.

But, with each teams offense, it very well could be one of the best SBs ever.

Best Hyped Super Bowl....ever.
Ugh, I can already hear ESPN's 24/7 ode to Peyton and Drew's jockstraps. Did you know Jerome Bettis is from Detroit?

Anyway, the greatest Super Bowl team ever, are obviously the 02 Bucs.
Steel Curtains? Don Shula? Bah!

The winner wouldn't be the best team ever. But it would be built up as the best Super Bowl ever with 2 undefeateds. But this won't happen. Its very unlikely that both Indy and NO both make the Super Bowl, even if they lose a game in the regular season.

That would be incredible if both were 18-0 though. I'd like to see it happen, with Indy winning.

if the patriots couldnt run the table a few years ago with that team then i seriously doubt that either of these two teams are going to do it. That new england team was ridiculous and more talented than both these teams on both sides of the ball

The Patriots went undefeated to the Super Bowl. If these two teams were to match that then one of them would surpass it. Thus, the hypothetical questions submitted.

I don't think so.. There were many more teams in the past who won superbowls and had more taslented players than the Colts and the Saints.

This is the game I am hoping for. Even if they are both not 18-0 at that point. That would be a great Super Bowl. Any Super Bowl with the Vikings in it on the other hand will be like being punched in the balls repeatedly by a guy dressed like ****-knocker with a Brett Favre mask on. Please don't let the media Favre us to death for 2 straight weeks. I don't think I could take it. I think that if the Saints win the Super Bowl and go undefeated you really would have to consider them as one of the greatest teams of all time. They are one hell of a good team this year.

I with you on "The Favre" Yes, he's a great player, yadda yadda yadda, but "The Heads" would make it nauseating for the next 7 months after the season ended.

Edit: If the Vikes win.

I'd love to see that game, especially if something crazy like overtime happened.

The Saints play the best 10 game season in the league.

They won't go undefeated.

It would by hyped as such, I think.

I wouldn't mind seeing those two meet in the SB personally.

I think the 2007 Patroits were the greatest team of all-time. Even though they lost the SB.

So I wouldn't consider either team to be THE GREATEST of all time if one went 19-0

Indy loses to Houston this week if Houston can learn how to close a game which I think they may.

ahhh hmmmm...I believe the 92 Cowboys, 89 49ers, and the 85 Bears could beat them (The 2007 Patriots), just to name a few. Plus, you can be the greatest team of all time without a SuperBowl title.

What i think would be more staggering is if the they did run the tables only to have the saints lose to the vikings in the NFC championship game. Then the vikings beat the undefeated colts in the Superbowl. The vikings could very easily be undefeated right now as well if it weren't for poor play calling in the red zone against Pittsburgh.

The Farve drama alone would be terrible, but I also think the vikings are a more complete team than either if Farve can continue his level of play.

Yea, and right after it happens, the BCS gets the NFL to implement its computers to decide the rightful champion!

HERE HERE

what has this season come to?

True, but the Vikes also needs a last second miracle to beat SF and needed a missed FG by the Ravens to win that game. They could easily be 7-3 if not for some last second luck.

I can think of at least a half-dozen teams in the last 30 years who'd be favored over either of them head to head.

Instead of two 18-0s, we probably get stuck with two wild card teams who bumble their way to a 3-2 shootout....this is more likely, since my football season is so delightful to this point (Bucs, Noles,Bulls...blah).

Bill Simmons said basically the same thing - he thought Vikings/Saints would be one of the most anticipated Conference Title Games ever, but we'd probably end up with Cardinals/Eagles again or something.

I think all football fans without a dog in the fight have to be rooting for Pats/Colts and Vikings/Saints in the conference title games. Though you could make a case for the Steelers in the mix in the AFC also.

Aww c'mon. My 09 Saints beat the heck out of all those legendary teams in Madden all the time!

85 bears were a one year wonder, they don't even come close.

I would say the Bill's came close years ago, and unfortunately, probably the great team of the modern era has to be the Patriots. Multiple trips to the Superbowl and they always seem the hardest team to beat. So objustively, they have to be the best of the last decade.

The Colts have had some pretty good seasons the last decade...but were never able to beat the Patriots when it counts.

I like this idea.....

The 85 Bears could beat the Saints.
That was a crushing Defense and The Saints allow alot of rushing yards. Walter Peyton would have a big day

The 86' Giants could beat the Saints
Lawrence Taylor Hitting Drew Brees would look like a Train hitting JB's Hyundai

The 2000 Ravens could beat the Saints
Heck. That D would allow maybe 14 points.

The 02' Bucs would DEFINATELY Beat the Saints
That Defense would score multiple times. Brees to Brooks...Touchdown.

That was fun.

Now before you Saints fans get irate, remember its a compliment to get that kind of critique.
