Mckay, nice guy, but what's all the fuss about...

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know a few of you are crying in your suds because Mr. Mac's gone up the road to the Atlanta Vick. I know that a lot of the media think that this is the beginning of some kind of Buc meltdown. What a bunch of crap!

Mckay was the GM for Pete's sake. You'd think he was Vince Lombardi by the sounds of things. Mckay seems to be only interested in pursuing consistency in mediocrity. Football is about winning. I couldn't care less about our record as long as we win the whole show. I don't care if your tenure on the squad is ten years or ten minutes as long as you are catching, running, blocking, tackling, or sacking. We won the SB because we were able to aquire good free-agents like Keenan, Ken Dilger, Joe Vicious, Roman Oben, etc. and that was done under Gruden's watch. Gruden encouraged these players to play in Tampa, not because they liked the uniforms, or liked Mckay, but because they wanted to play for Gruden and they wanted to win. Offensively, other than Alstott and Brad, Mckay has done nothing other than give us: Kenyatta "Holding. Number 67. Five Yard penalty. Repeat third down." Walker. Mckay put together a good defense because Dungy was a defensive coordinator that held his hand in acquisitions.

Mckay needs to grow a pair. He sounds like he needs to sit down when he goes to the can. Coaches don't run GM's out. It's the other way around. Sounds to me like Mckay didn't want to be around to pull the trigger on fan faves like Sapp, etc. in the off-season. Sounds to me like he didn't want to be the villain in this and took the easy way out of town. Considering Mckay was leaving last year prior to Gruden's arrival, I think it's BS to land Mckay's happy feet on the Coach's door.

Who would you rather leave MCkay or Gruden? If you like 10-6 records and Burt Emanuel you'd vote the former, but if you like winning with some style and attitude and a SB you'll choose the latter!

Isn't holding a 10 yard penalty?

I agree with what you are saying. Coaches coach, and players play. There is more dependancy on coaches and players for creating wins than the GM. Actually, the Director of Player/Personnel (Tim Ruskell) has a bigger impact on the team then the GM.

The team's focus on winning will not change, and due to differences, either the Owner or the GM had to go. Well, the owners ain't gonna quit.

I think the changes in the organization are an exciting opportunity for the Bucs, if they play their "cards" wisely..

hasta la vista

Welcome to the Board Stein. Great first post and thanks for taking time to typs *correctly.
I think you nailed some good points. The bottomline is McKay is gone. I agree that the soap box stuff doesn't matter much anymore, does it? Too many people spend soo much time looking back they can't see what lies ahead of him.
Best I can gather there were some philosophical differences 'tween Da Man (Coach Gruden) and GM, c'est live'.
GM was a great money man apparently. He is not irreplacable. Coach IS, IMO.
Go Bucs!

Appreciate him? No problem. Freak out spouting doomsday predictions due to his leaving? Not.

Not to mention Walker's specialty is the 15 yarder.

Fantastic post! And it's one of your first ones! I'm beginning to think that some people on this board are looking for a reason to be "gutshot" all the time.

Great post. Apparently because of our success no one has bothered to look at the last 5 drafts. They suck. Period. End of conversation. Time to let McKay move on, the Glazer freaks move on and give Gruden what he needs!

Funny, don't see "Rich McKay" on the trust team that found new owners. The Outback Group would also have kept the Bucs in Tampa. WIth or without McKay, we would still have the TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS.
Without a doubt. The Outback group may still be the owners one day
