Eagles sign Dhani Jones....
The Philadelphia Eagles have added another fast, young defender to bolster their defensive unit.
Advertisement SportsLine.com has learned that the former Giants starting weakside linebacker Dhani Jones has agreed to a five year, $12.5 million deal that includes a $4 million in bonus money -- $2 million to sign and $2 million in roster bonus. Jones, one of the more consistent starters on the Giants defense, will replace Carlos Emmons at strongside backer. Emmons signed with the Giants this week. Jones started all but two games for the G-Men the last two seasons and finished the season with an impressive 120 tackles on an unimpressive and banged-up unit. Both he and fellow starter Brandon Short were allowed to hit the free agent market this off-season. The Jets had shown an interest in Jones, but they signed former Raider Eric Barton. Jones had become one of New Yorks most prolific athletes because of his artistic ability and intelligence. In fact, after his rookie season he could actually be found playing the washboard base in the New York City subways as a hobby. He was hired by the NFL Network this year as their roving reporter for the AFC title game and Super Bowl. Its the best of both worlds for me by coming here, Jones said shortly after agreeing to his deal. Im close to home, still close to New York and I know Im coming to a place where were going to win. That was really important in my decision-making process." The Eagles previously signed another hot young player in DE Jevon Kearse. They are still hoping to obtain WR Terrell Owens, who will likely have a special arbitration deciding his fate in the next week. http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/story/7158451 Last edited by gipctech; 03-09-2004 at 09:28 PM.. |

correct me if I'm wrong but does this mean that the $2M roster bonus gets counted against the cap in full in the first year of his contract and only the remaining $2M signing bonus gets amortized ( at rougly $400k per year) over the 5 year contract....

Dhani? Is that a guy's name? It looks like a womans name. If it were a man, wouldn't it be Donny or Donald? That's as bad as Kenyatta.

Not a bad signing for the Eagles...
Anyone think Short would be worth giving a call if he hasn't been picked up already?

thx, gip.
Dhani Jones is a good young LB with upside whereas Emmons is over 30 currently gimping around with a big screw in his foot. For those snivelling about the WR situation (and believe me, it happens a lot in iggle country) you're right. They do sukk. However, that squad of WR's was good enough to take three straight from TB. (if you feel the need to remind me how the next two games went, that's cool...just thought I would let you know that I do remember.) And the signing of Jones leaves the birds with a little flexibility going into the draft to go get one of those rookie WR's. And there's always a chance Crybaby Terrell could still end up in our laps. Additionally, Duce just signed with Pittsburgh. Not the breakaway threat that Garner is, but a better blocker and a bit younger and tougher. http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/spo...fl/8145343.htm Last edited by iggle4rill; 03-09-2004 at 09:42 PM.. |

Good, I didn't want to be the only one that thought he'd be worth calling...
Quarles is still here. Nasty-Nate is gone to the Bengals though (notice the avatar).

If so, Short (probably) wouldn't want to come to a team with an established starter and tight cap situation. |

They still need WRs. If the Lords of Intervention bring TO to the Iggles, they can use that first for Mike LB. If not, WR ye be. Still, they've made magic from a very good defense and average offense for years.
