Lead pipe locks.
My lead pipe locks.
1) Jake Delhomme will prove all critics wrong. Many fans have already labled Jake as a "one year wonder" sighting that the reason that Jake had so much success was that in part he was lucky, and opposing teams were unfamiliar with him. Look for Jake to come out gang-busters this season, fo the simple reason he is now comfortable with the system and has more weapons to go to. 2) Alhough Stephen Davis will be the workhorse early, look for Deshaun Foster to have a break out season. Davis will be the starter out of camp, but if he becomes run down or injured, look for Foster to bust it loose. 3) Jordon Gross will be make the Pro Bowl at LT, IMHO Gross should have been rookie of the year last season, but he plays a very "boring position." 4)Mark Feiolds will be comeback player of the year. Nuff said. 5) The Panthers will finally get that "Falcons with Vick" monkeey off their back this season by winning at least one and maybe both against the Vick led Falcons. Vick is a great athlete, but he does not play defense. Vick has had good games against the Panthers, but i do not think that is why the Panthers has had so much trouble with Atl. Its a fact that the Panthers have trouble against teams who use the 3-4 defense, but Atl has gone to a 4-3 for this season. 6) The Panthers will be in the playoffs this season, putting to rest the argument that the Panthers are last years version of the 2001 Bears. Many NFL fans actually think that the Panters "lucked their way to the SB last season. While I am hoping for a return trip to the SB ending with the Panthers first title, the Panters will make a strong run in the playoffs quiting the naysayers for good. This is just the way I see it. ![]() |

You do know lead pipes caused dementia in the Romans?
Now I could say something along the lines of have you checked your pipes lately, but that might be flaming and I really don't wanna get banned. |

I am a Utah native and i must say I wish the best of luck to gross and Steve smith. I loved watching them in college. Steve is a hero when he overcame a broken neck during one of his seasons for the utes. I hope they continue to do well for years to come. ![]() |

Heelinfine. Interesting ovbservations. First, as long as the Panthers have the best D line in football, a good group of linebackers behind them, and can control the line of scrimmage on offense with the ground game, they will remain a tough opponent. Smith, Saurbraun <sp> and Kasay on special teams add to the package. Like the saints had our number, I also agree you'll beat the falcons (please folks, no more falcon threads on this board for a while...gesh!!!).
Now the other side of the coin. Only Jeff Mitchell returns to his position last year on the O-line, and I believe that will cause your offense some real problems early. Jordon Gross won't make the Pro Bowl this year (unless as alternate), and will get beat from time to time by the best speed rushers in the game. Mark Fields may well win comeback player of the year, and best of luck to him for what he's been through, but does that mean he's playing at his ole Pro Bowl type level??? Dan Morgan and Steven Davis have been injury prone over the years and as any bucs fan can tell you, injuries do happen after Superbowl years. Way too early too put yourself in the playoffs (same goes for us), lets play a few snaps first. I see teams loading up against the run this year, then putting heat on Jake behind a makeshift line. Finally, lots and lots of breaks last year. I'm not saying you were lucky, just things did go your way most of the time, and that usually doesn't happen two years in a row. Despite the first place finish, your schedule doesn't look to tough out of division. |

If the definition of a "Lead pipe lock" means a joke, then yes, those are lead pipe locks.

I don't think you know what lead pipe locks are!
If three of the six things you listed come true, you could be up for seer of the year award. and the no. 1 reason panthers fall to last in the division is, they can't beat the division teams, ATL, NO, BUCS they will be 1-5 against them. go bucs......... |

I replaced all of my lead pipes with neoprene. Keeps the lead out of the water and reduces the delusional effects on the brain.

Most of those are remotely possible. Delhomme is an outside shot, and the back to back superbowl appearances is doubtful. Gross making it to the Probowl wont happen, because no one knows who he is, and not enough people like to watch the Panthers play. But Fields doing well, winning against Atl, and Foster breaking out are actually quite plausible IMO.

1) No. The biggest knock against Jake is that he can't win when teams stop the run. He still hasn't proven that he can. Panthers lost most of their OLine from last year. Let's see how that holds up now on him and the running game. 2) Maybe. I think Deshaun can be a great back, and could replace Davis soon because he's younger, quicker, and faster, it just depends on Davis' health, and the OLine. 3) He played great at RT last year. But I liken him to Kyle Turley. Similar size, and similar style of play. Turley was great at RT and all signs pointed to being great at LT because that's where he played in college. When he switched to LT in the NFL, his performance dropped. He was average at best. And his lack of ideal size at LT, like Gross, hindered his ability to stop the bullrush. Gross's outcome may be different, but right now that's how I see it. 4) I hope so. Mark Fields is a standout guy. 5) We'll see 6) That's not the way I see it, but that's my opinion. |

Well I guess anyone can dream this time of season. Doesn't make any of those dreams a Lock to happen.
I'll Bookmark this thread and re-visit it after the season is over. GO Bucs

for me one lead pipe lock is Vick will play all 16 games this season shutting up the critics once and for all about his injury issues.
I see us splitting against the panthers with each side winning at home. |

you'll see delhome's true stripes early in the season, and it's going to hurt, my friend. Mark Fields comeback is probably the only thing that you've said that i would even consider.

everyone seems to doubt the Panther's O-Line skillwise when the skill is not an issue.
Bruce Nelson recently underwent a corrective surgery and should be back before opening weekend, to start at guard, he was a sub for last year's o-line at center and did a nice job doing it. Mitchell will be steady as always. Gross should adjust to the LT position quickly, and Adam Meadows, a proven vet should take over the RT spot. It's just a question of injury and cohesion, however, our O-line coach did one heck of a job with Jeno James last year turning him from backup to above average guard. As long as Travis Claridge or Wharton fill that last guard spot we will be fine as long as the O-line is relatively healthy, learns the system since we have one of the most complicated run schemes in the league, and work as a unit. As for the rest, I definitely see DeShaun having a breakout year in the last half of the season. Mark Fields was a great lineback and will be a great linebacker next year, its a tragedy such a disease should affect such a class guy. Jake I have the utmost confidence in, sure hes not a hall of famer or one of the best QB's in the league, but you know what? He leads, hes got charisma, he can rally the troops, and pressure doesn't phase him, at all. Just my 2 cents, but again its way too early to predict anything. Lets get through training camp first. |

I know there's no such thing as a lead pipe lock in the NFL. Just trying to stir things up a little bit because I am going crazy waiting for the season to start.
But I do feel like my " locks" can happen. There are to many varibles to call any thing a "lead pipe lock." I think the O-line will be fine, Coach Maser is one of the best line coaches out there. |

First of all, Donnalley retired. He would have been 36 when the 2004 season started and was on his last legs. He was great in the locker room. He is replacable with comparable talent. Anyone remember the 35 yards in penalties on ONE drive in the St Louis playoff game he committed? The team wanted Jeno James to return, but not for the kind of cash he got from the Dolphins. Plain and simple, they overpaid for him. The organization placed a value on him and, although i did not want to see him go, was fine with not placing those kind of cap numbers on a player at guard. At guard, we have several who will challenge for the two jobs. Travis Claridge was signed and has plenty of experience starting in 49 games in his 4 seasons. Bruce Nelson was drafted to be the long term solution at one of the Guard positions, but recent hip surgery and will miss some of training camp. Journeymen Doug Brzezinski, Tutan Reyes, and Rich Tylski, along with rookie Travelle Wharton (who many compare to Jeno James) will also compete for the two spots. The plan when Jordan Gross was to move him to LT. Steussie's cap number and the fact that we were able to sign Adam Meadows allowed that move to take place. Contrary to some Panther fans here, i thought that Steussie was solid for us. But Gross should be a long term upgrade at LT. As long as Meadows can stay healthy, which is a concern, the Tackle position will be fine. |
