05 free agents

This is the most complete list of free agents that will be available for 2005that I could find.

I have included some of my comments.

What do you think?

Quarterbacks

Shane Matthews-UFA-Bills
Jim Miller-UFA-Patriots
Sage Rosenfels-UFA-Dolphins
Josh Harris-ERFA-Ravens
Kordell Stewart-UFA-Ravens (Nice project but I think it would be a waste of time, effort and $.)

Kelly Holcomb-UFA-Browns
Charlie Batch-UFA-Steelers
Tony Banks-UFA-Texans
Matt Mauck-ERFA-Broncos
Bradlee Van Pelt-ERFA-Broncos
Todd Collins-UFA-Chiefs
Damon Huard-UFA-Chiefs
David Rivers-ERFA-Raiders
Drew Brees-UFA-Chargers (the best FA Qback on the market and he is not that great)
Mike McMahon-UFA-Lions ((seems like a couple of years ago, everyone thought this guy was gonna be great)
Rick Mirer-UFA-Lions
Craig Nall-RFA-Packers
Doug Pederson-UFA-Packers
Gus Frerotte-UFA-Vikings
Shaun Hill-ERFA-Vikings
Josh McCown-RFA-Cardinals
Matt Hasselbeck-UFA-Seahawks (Seahawks will resign him, like Drew Brees, and again, he's not that good)
Brock Huard-UFA-Seahawks
Ty Detmer-UFA-Falcons
Rod Rutherford-ERFA-Panthers
Vinny Testaverde-UFA-Cowboys
Jesse Palmer-UFA-Giants
Jeff Blake-UFA-Eagles (I think he has the most upside of any one in the list. Is Gruden good enough to make him great? Doubt it)
Tim Hasselbeck-ERFA-Redskins
************************************************** ************************
I would take our 3 qbacks over everyone on this list, except Matt and Drew. I like Brian Griese better than both of them.

kickers

Adam Vinatieri-UFA-Patriots (The impossible dream. This guy is money in the bank! clutch as it comes. Kickers win games even if football players can't stand them. Him or Vanderjack (sp) we have to have a very good kicking game as we dont seem to score many td's. Let's have a guy that can get all the 3's he's supposed to! I might take him first above all others on this list.....maybe, even more so if I was picking for the Bucs being they are in such desperate need of a kicker. We dont need a AFL Guy or a college guy or an XFL guy. We need a PROVEN pro that doesn't miss kicks he is supposed to make!. No way BB lets him go, no way. He stays in NE. I'd very much like to be wrong about that)
Wade Richey-UFA-Ravens
Jeff Reed-RFA-Steelers
Lawrence Tynes-ERFA-Chiefs
Morten Andersen-UFA-Vikings (Isn't he 50 something? I'd take him over the AFL Guy)
Todd Peterson-UFA-49ers
Jay Feely-UFA-Falcons
Steve Christie-UFA-Giants

I will freely admit, I do not know a lot about players off the Buccaneers roster. This is why I put this list on the web. I would like to open dialog about the available free agents and learn some of the things that you guys know that I may not.
Anyway, here is my comments about the FA's that I know about. What could you add?

Good work. I didn't realize there was that many players who were going to be availble for the Bucs to choose from.

Great List. Thank you!
I'll only comment on the offensive players available because of time constraints.
QB....No one.
RB....Westbrooke won't be available because Reid will keep him , but I sure could live
with Dorsey Levens.
WR....Plaxico Burris would make a great combo with Clayton, but it ain't gonna
happen, so I kthink Tai Streets would be a good choice.
TE.... Hape or Putzier, whoever the Broncos don't re-sign
OL....NO MORE OLD WORN OUT OFFENSIVE LINEMAN

You should break it down to a list of just UFA's. The RFA's aren't really free agents.

Great lineup, thanks for taking the time man!

I like Tai Streets as well.

I also think Drew Brees would do as good, if not better, than Greise. But I don't think we can afford him.

NO more beat-up has been O-Line players please...

As for RB, I'm big on Rudy Johnson (too espensive I think ). But I feel certain Ron Dayne could do well 'if' he can catch out of the backfield. Dorsey also has the talent to do well.

I think a lot of this is smoke and mirrors though, until we get a grip on our Cap situation, we're only playing the "what if" game...

Thanx for putting the liszt up. Plaxico will be reisgned by Pitt, but it would be nice to have him. I agree Tai Streets would be a good compliment to Clayton. Don't forget Dane Looker. Bubba Franks is the only tight end that excites me from this list.

O-line and D-line don't show much. I don't have all the info on those guys. If there is a d-tackle that could be a disrupter from that bunch I'd like to know. The only guy that intrigues me is Chris Hovan. Could Rod get the best out of him? Maybe.

Probably could never happen but hey... we seem to alot of deals with the chargers, why not???
Maybe a draft pick trade so they can move up and get the WR they are in dire need of. They can get another TE to block, considering they have the Giants #1.
Anyways, Bubba Franks is more likely...

But can you imagine how explosive that would be for us if it did ...not sure if he can block well, but I think he can. I mean LT is a awesome back with a great line to block for him. Anybody know if he blocks well at the TE spot or if he is just a glorified WR playing TE???

Personally, I think (hope, pray, beg) this offseason will be more about addition by subtraction - IE Brad Johnson, Charlie Garner, Mike Alstott, Tim Brown, Joey Galloway, Todd Stuessie, Derrick Deese, Cosey Coleman, Ian Gold, Mario Edwards, etc. Then perhaps we can "addition" by letting some of our young talent develop - Anthony Davis, Chris Simms, Ernest Graham, Marquise Cooper, Torrie Cox, etc.

Rudi Johnson probably wouldn't be a good fit for this offense. He's not a receiving back. I don't think buckhalter is any better than Pittman.

I was gonna do that but it seems there is at least 1 or 2 offers a year on rfa's so I thought I should add them.

Why get rid of galloway and Gold. This baffles me when people are so quick to dismiss these guys.

I'm on the fence about Gold. Probably because we have many needs, little money, and the dropoff between Gold and Nece (or maybe Cooper) or Gold and Gooch isn't IMHO dramatic enough to merit the differences in salary.

As for Galloway, he's injury prone and he drops too many damn balls. Plus, at 32, he ain't getting any faster and that's his whole game.

Is Galloway getting any slower? Is his game-speed not up to par?

I will gladly rag on old players that are past their prime (Tim Brown), but I had heard Galloway was still plenty fast?

As for being "injury prone" he could still have incentives for games played and that sort of thing. There's no reason to let a good (when they're healthy) player go just because you think he could get injured again. It's part of the game.
