If your Chris Simms...

What does the Bucs' pursuit of Jeff Garcia, Quincy Carter and the every possible veteran back-up on the market including Shaun King mean to you?

It means that your not going to be a long-term resident in Tamp. After your limited appearances last season, you might have hoped to have been competing for the starting job with Griese. Instead Griese is rewarded with a long-term contract. Not exactly career-enhancing measures.

If I'm Simms I'm outta here as soon as possible.

If I was Simms I'd be hitting the gym and put on some bulk so I can take a few good hits before I fall to pieces. Then I would try and impress the coaches.

As far as I know, we are not persuing King. Please post a link if you have learned otherwise. Also,

Griese's contract is actually a series of 1 year deals and roster bonuses as far as I have heard. That means Simms is still in the running.

In what is structured as a deal that will essentially allow the two sides to revisit the contract after every season, Griese could earn as much as $32.6 million. Similar to his prior contract, this one also includes large roster bonuses every year. Those bonuses, all due before the start of the free agency period every year, will basically force an annual review of Griese's performance.

Good Post. I'm surprised they got Griese to agree on this. The local media made it sound like he wanted a guaranteed starting job!!

Simms will get majority of snaps in pre-season games. Will maybe make or break his Tampa career. If he can produce another pre-season like he did last year, then its game on!

He needs to shut up and play. Work harder in the off-season and work like hell in camp. Show the coaching staff why they don't need anybody behind him.

He should... but probably won't.

Needs to shut up??? I have heard nothing of him complaining.

As for starting this will be his 3rd year in the nfl, alot of QB's get a couple of years riding the bench their first couple of years. Time to get adjusted to the pro level and a chance to get bulked up. They did start him a couple of times, but his time on the field wasnt really enough to say if he is the teams franchise guy. If memory serves Jon was really impressed with him last year.

Simms is the equal of Scott Milanovich...

I remember when people were calling for Dilfer to be benched in favor of Milanovich after he had a great preseason...

True, and he wasnt. Maybe Simms will be a bust, but it is to early to make that call.

I believe that Simms was given the chance in College and the NFL based on his father...

Simms wasn't even supposed to be drafted until later in the draft...

It means that the Bucs - like every other team in the NFL - want at least 4 QBs on the roster going into training camp.

I assure you that any QB the Bucs sign or draft will be competing for the #3 QB job. Simms is going to be the #1 or #2 QB depending on how he plays in training camp and the preseason.

maybe it was because of his father, but he did walk away with a winning record. As for not winning the big game argument someone had to lose.

As for the draft S.D. drafted him not us and I for one cant make an argument for or against him because I havent seen enough. I am not or have I ever been at training camp, I dont know how he does day to day, so I put my trust in the coaching staff to put who is ever best suited out on the field come game day.

What's there to plan? I'm pretty sure we'll give him an RFA contract. He can plan for 2007.

What?!?!?

San Diego drafted who?

Maybe you are thinking about Leaf who was a Bucs training camp experiment a few years ago. Or maybe you are talking about Carter who the Cowboys drafted in the second round (and yes that was described as a reach, he was expected to go later in the draft).

But, if you are talking about Simms, the Bucs drafted him in the 3rd round three years ago.

exactly! thank you for being one of the only people with some sense. if we wanted to cut simms, it would have been done already. if we wanted to trade him, it would have been done already. forget the arizona game, it means nothing. 1 bad game does not make or break a quarterback. he's the #2 guy right now, with a shot at earning the #1 spot.

If I were Simms I would be working on my grip and arm strength. You don't want to fumble the clip board during a crucial situation come game time. If you're a career back-up like he is, then damn it, be the best career back-up you can be. Like Steve DeBerg.

That right there is the mind set I'm hoping Simms has and comes to camp with a determination. If he comes to TC like King did in 2001 after Brad signed, resigned to being a back up, well then that's his own ending.

??? He complained about not being taken until the 3rd round in the draft. Then he complained that he should be the starter during the regular season because Brian Griese was merely 'good', and the coaches were showing that they had no confidence in him if they didn't let him start.

I am still wondering what Simms had done to instill any confidence in him, whatsoever?

Impressed with Simms? With the following comments made over and over by Gruden? "No Charity Appearance." "Difficulties of switching from Right to Left Handed QB." "Unacceptability of Simms muffing the snap." Maybe you would like to go back and read some of Gruden's comments about Brian Griese?

Seems like it should be fairly obvious that Gruden has his Starter and is looking at a lot of other QBs for the number 2 spot. McKay drafted Simms. Since he was so crazy about him, maybe Simms could go to Atlanta?

This deal about Simms not having had enough time is bogus. IN HIS FIRST TWO GAMES, NO OTHER QB IN THE NFL EVER DID AS BAD AS SIMMS IN HIS FIRST TWO GAMES. Some of those other QBs Started in their Rookie season and still did much better.

Then there is Simms complaining. Coaches do not like malcontents. Especially malcontents who have done absolutely nothing to prove they are worthy of the position they are crying about. Fool yourself into thinking Simms wasn't crying to the Press about not starting if it makes you feel better, but then tell me what Gruden was so angry about, that he made the "Charity Appearance" quote, right after this:

" Without question, yeah,'' Simms said. ``I feel like I've worked hard and have a good grasp of this offense. I would think they'd have the confidence in me to at least give me the opportunity. One game is not going to make or break me. I mean, I'd love to play next week, but Brian's been playing good. "

WHAT had he done to that he would think they'd have any confidence in him what so ever?

If I were Simms, I would not declare that the contract Griese got meant anything about my future, the rules still apply that the best man will earn the starting job. Reality check, the Bucs do need another solid backup man, and looking at other players, who have not signed elsewhere, is too be expected. They are not likely to acquire another starter. King, who was mentioned, was already beaten out by Simms.

Work hard, study hard, and play HARDER!!!!

All he can promise himself is to give his all, in the weight room, at practice, and hopefully in games. If he wins the starting spot, good for him.

If I were Simms I would sit back and enjoy making a few hundred thou for sitting on the bench, when I became a free agent, I would beg Gruden to resign me for whatever, and enjoy sitting ont he bench, because if I had to go to another team, they might want me to play, and then the world would know how bad I really suck. I already proved it when I played the AZ game, but those fun loving Buc fans still love me, this is where I want to stay, because as long as I don't have to play, they will continue to think that I am good.
