Chad Morton

Dave Campbell, of the Associated Press, reports free agent RB Chad Morton (Redskins) may have an upcoming visit with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, although at this point nothing has been finalized.

Would be good only if he came cheap (veteran minimum), and only used in special teams

It's from kffl.com:

After they lost several ST aces this offseason (Howell, Ivy, Burns) and with all those young guys, they surely could use some veteran leadership on special teams.

He could definately provide return help as both a KR and PR. Even though it appears that Cox would be our primary KR, having another threat like Morton back there as the secondary return man really forces the KO teams hand that they have to kick to one of them.

He could also relieve Galloway of PR duties and only use Galloway in certain PR situations. I don't mind Galloway as a starting WR, but at his age and with his past injury concerns, I'd rather him stay at his primary role as much as possible.

Would probably come cheap and really help the ST, but not a season breaking loss if they don't sign him.

If we can land Morton, I guarantee he takes one to the house next year.

We could finally see some speed on punt returns for once. No more fair catches, 4 yard returns, or bobbled punts.

You got that right and would make Cox step up to the pump for sure.

We could have scraped that up for him, even as strapped as the pirate's treasure chest is these days!

Oh I don't think your excitement needs to be tempered just because we didn't sign Morton. While he doesn't have the KR experience that Morton does, if anyone on this team can break one for us it's Torrie Cox.

CBF, I agree we probably could have afforded that but we don't even know if the Bucs were really interested. It was only speculated that he would come for a visit but I never heard anything more than that regarding Morton and the Bucs.

Just under one right now, If Simeon, Kenyatta and Derrick Brooks would throw us a bone, we could cut Stuessie, sign our draft picks and still could have landed Morton!

Lemme see if I have this right....to sign a player, we basically have to cut a player. And we sign a player just to run back kicks, when we have players to run back kicks.....and contribute at other positions. And we cut loose a guy like Charles lee, who was hesitant to play Special Teams in addition to his other duties.

M'kay. I get it now.

Yeah I got a lotta hope in Torrie as well, but a guy like Chad Morton woulda almost gaurunteed it.... Remember that vets min usu has no bad effect on cap... top 53? salaries comtribute to a team's cap status...

One a side note: We must have alooooota dead money if Barber's cap value is the 3rd highest on the team....

With that size bone we could sign Payton Manning.
That would be a great bone to sign some young FAs next year.
