Best ever in each number all time team!!!
I have been chatting with a couple of friends and we started thinking who is the greatest player to wear each number in NFL history. We are now up to the point where all the numbers are filled up with possible candidates.
Players in Bold text are now locked in to the team at their respective number If you know any other worthy candidates for numbers not yet in bold please add your suggestion #00 Jim Otto #1 Warren Moon #2 John "Paddy" Driscoll #3 Bronislaw "Bronko" Nagurski/Jan Stenerud #4 Brett Favre #5 Paul Hornung #6 Bubby Brister/Benny Friedman #7 John Elway #8 Steve Young #9 Sonny Jurgenson #10 Fran Tarkenton #11 Phil Simms #12 Terry Bradshaw #13 Dan Marino #14 Otto Graham #15 Bart Starr #16 Joe Montana #17 Harold Carmichael #18 Peyton Manning #19 John Unitas #20 Barry Sanders #21 Deion Sanders #22 Emitt Smith #23 Mel Gray #24 Lenny Moore #25 Fred Biletnikoff #26 Rod Woodson #27 Steve Attwater #28 Darrell Green #29 Erick Dickerson #30 Terrell Davis #31 Jim Taylor #32 Jim Brown #33 Tony Dorsett #34 Walter Paryton #35 Aeneas Williams #36 Jerome Bettis #37 Lester Hayes #38 Arnie Herber #39 Larry Csonka #40 Gale Sayers #41 Charlie Waters/Matt Snell/Tom Matte #42 Ronnie Lott #43 Don Perkins/Fred Baxter/Steve Foley/Cliff Harris #44 John Riggins/Chuck Foreman #45 Emlen Tunnell/Homer Jones #46 Lou Groza/Todd Christensen #47 Mel Blount #48 Daryl "Moose" Johnson #49 Dennis Smith #50 Mike Singletary #51 **** Butkus #52 Ray Lewis/Mike Webster #53 Bill Romanowski/Shelton Quarles/Alex Wojciechowicz/Harry Carson #54 Brian Urlacher/Zach Thomas/Randy White #55 Derrick Brooks/Juniour Seau #56 Lawrence Taylor #57 Rickey Jackson #58 Jack Lambert #59 Jack Ham #60 Chuck Bednarik #61 Nate Newton #62 Charley Trippi #63 Lee Roy Selmon #64 Randall McDaniel/Jack " Hacksaw" Reynolds #65 Tom Mack #66 Ray Nitschke #67 Reggie McEnzie/Bob Kuchenberg #68 Kevin Mawae/L.C. Thanks for the kudos PG
This idea has been hard work so far And I tottally agree on the O.J. statement. Unfortunately I am only allwoing for one player per number so i still have to trim quite a few players off. With this in mind i had no room for O.J. as in the long run it is Jim's spot Last edited by ozbuc21; 06-19-2005 at 02:24 PM.. Reason: correction |

That is some pretty sweet work. I did notice some multiple names per number, so I think another #99 that deserves some consideration is Dan Hampton. But then again, I guess there is a ton of truly greats that would have to left off the list.

Like I said earlier, many have to be left off, as he only wants to use one name per number. That makes it really tough, with many coming down to, strictly opinion.
With respect to the hard work ozbuc 21 put into his list, maybe oz could do a "Buc fan's choice, all time numbers team". Might have to be in off topic, I don't know, but you could start by starting a thread for #1. Everyone votes for ONE, and only one #1. Then say after 50-75 votes or whatever, you close the thread and the top vote getter wins the number. Then go to #2, then so on and so on! When it's all said and done, we'd have a pretty cool list, thats totally based on a Bucs fans majority vote, which is a heck of a lot better than having one or many lists simply based on ones opinion. oz, not trying to hijack your thread. I think you're on to something really cool. Just trying to offer a suggestion that I think could be really successful for you, in terms of post counts, interest and fun for all! What does everyone else think? Last edited by Moe Betta; 06-19-2005 at 06:26 PM.. |

I would take Sapp off and replace with Jerome Brown if the idea is to allow no ties.

Some great ideas guys i will be editing list shortly just wondering. some of theses for instance are multiples on top of numbers. For instance Lance Alworth was on the list in the Past with Jonny Unitas but with only one player per number the ultimate goal i took him off same with O.J. Simpson/Howie Long/Jim Kelly and so on......
Should we just do multiple per number now and then later start a new thread to vote off for each number?????? Any suggestions welcome and thanks again guys for the help so far |

#6 Bubba Brister- Greatest Backup QB to never be a starter

I don't know who Bubba Brister is, but Bubby Brister started from 88-90 with the Steelers.
"The soft-spoken Brister played the first seven years of his career in Pittsburgh and posted his best NFL season in 1990 when he started all 16 games and set career highs for attempts (387), completions (223), passing yards (2,725), and touchdown passes (20). But the Steelers managed just one playoff win in Brister's tenure in Steel City and eventually, he moved on to brief stints with Philadelphia and the New York Jets before settling in Denver in 1997. There, he was able to cap his career with two Super Bowl rings and the chance to be a part of NFL history with the Broncos before retiring after the 1999 season. " From NFL.com Not exactly a "great" player. |

Well I saw your earlier suggestion saying it should not just be one persons opinion but a voting system.
So with this in mind i have asked should we allow multiple entries per number for now and vote off at a later point in a new thread??? Hope this clears it up a bit mate By the way is Bill Romanowski worhty i feel like adding him but i am hesitant for some reason |

Hey I liked your idea mate.
So for now we can have as many entries per number as we are deemed worthy by the people (except for any Chris Simms Or Bubby Brister suggestions) I do dtill think there are some exceptions to the rule where there is no contest like the numbers #13 #16 #56 #20 #80 And we will all vote and tidy it up later I was also hesitant on Andre Reed but i did add him Can you think of a better 53 to keep romo off the list then??? |
