Dwight Smith

I like Dwight Smith a lot, but I find this amazingly ironic.

Saints | Smith Robbed
Tue, 28 Jun 2005 17:02:41 -0700

ClickOnDetroit.com reports New Orleans Saints S Dwight Smith was robbed at gunpoint Sunday night, June 26, while visiting family in Detroit, Local 4 reported. He had just returned from a market to a home in the 15000 block of Quincy Street on the city's west side when the incident occurred. Police said a car pulled up in front of the home at about 11 p.m. A man exited the vehicle with an assault rifle and ordered Smith to remove his jewelry, according to police. A woman in the car was ordered to pickup the jewelry. The two fled the scene with about $100,000 in jewelry and $4,000 in cash, police said. Smith is now back in Florida while the investigation into the case continues.

I doubt he wears it in public. Wonder if they even knew who he was.

What kind of moron walks around wearing $100,000 in jewelry? And carrying $4000? Hasn't he ever heard of an ATM?

I read somewhere in a book about Michael Jordan, that he carries a minimum of $10,000. He was quoted as saying "you never now what you might see that you want".

I wonder the same thing. And at what time of night?
BTW, isn't the East side of most towns supposed to be the bad side?

Its funny because of the irony in it and because he is a moron for walking around not the best of areas with 100,000 worth of jewerly and 4,000 cash.

The irony is this guy was involved in 2 instances where he was the one pulling a gun on someone.

The word here is....Gallacticly (sp) stupid!!! In Detroit??? On quincy street, which, I have family in Flint and Detroit and that isn't exactly a swank area.

You can't wear $100.00 worth of Jewelry there without getting popped much less 100K$!

Dwight should re-think himself, because, if this isn't an insurance scam, and it probably is, he is VERY lucky they left him alive.

Some Buc fans are morons. If a guy plays for us, he's exhalted and protected and worshiped and forgiven (as long as Grudne brought him in). The SPLIT SECOND he leaves, he's garbage who deserves whatever he gets. It's fans like these that make the rest of us look bad.

Leeroy: I am not disagreeing with you but it is very ironic that the incident happened. It sure seems as if trouble is following Mr. Smith around.

I am not too sure that I dont agree with the previous poster about insurance...hmm.

Yeah, yeah, I get the irony. But had this happened to him while he was a Buccaneer, the reaction would have been MUCH different among posters here. I just think we should treat a guy the same regardless of if he's playing for us or not. The way we tend to put OUR guys on pedestals and treat other guys (especially our ex-guys) like trash makes us look ignorant.

When you start carrying 4 grand in cash and 100k in jewelry, it's time to get a posse.
