Anthony Becht's Much Needed Change of Scenery

An actually well written piece by Stroud. I'm a huge fan of the TE position which is why the additions of Becht and this Smith guy are interesting. Maybe the best TE combo we've had in quite sometime.

The guy definately sounds like he has a deep love for the game and is happy and excited to be a Buccaneer. His blocking skills are an obvious plus but you'll also see Gruden use him more as a receiver than he was in his last few Jet seasons. He was a good receiver at WV and in his first few seasons in the NFL. You don't just forget how to catch, the Jets just didn't throw that often and when they did it wasn't to any of their TE's really.

Becht's blocking prowess combined with his edge of nastiness should be a great benchmark for #2 Alex Smith behind him to try and emulate in those parts of Smith's game. From the sounds of TC, Becht's blocking and toughness are already rubbing off on the rook. He seems to have already struck up a bond with the young protoge' as seen in this Smith quote regarding Alex's run in with Dwayne White...

Quote:
"It means a lot, especially because he has my back and I'll have his just as fast," Smith said.
The thing the Bucs HAD to come out of FA with was a viable starting vet TE since the cupboard was bare. Getting a proven starter with youth and plenty left and with the skills we need at the position for that type of contract was well done by Allen and the entire coaching and FO staff.

Hey Marley. What are you doing up at this hour?
There was a good article in the Trib on Thursday too about Becht and Smith. Becht was actually saying he did quite a bit of catching when he was in college as a TE. Sounds like he'll be doing more of that here too than he did with the Jets.

I actually have the day off today (Friday) so I thought I'd check out the BB before I hit the bed.

And that Smith and Becht TE article...I posted it yesterday at something after midnight. I'm a sucker for a TE that can stretch the field. Good article too.

this guy and hovan were two of the guys I had picked up in my Madden season just months before the real changes happened, then I drafted buenning and colmer before we actually did in the ncaa draft. i know the game doesnt have anything to do with it, but Becht had to of been the biggest artwork for a TE in that entire game haha..

to be more on topic though, what are some of the main reasons we think such a run the ball team would let a dominant runblocking TE go?

Hey Becky, how do you get that single post view if you just want to link to one specific post like you did?

Duh Tom...I just figured it out. See the post number in the upper right corner of the posts. Click on that number and the single view will come up.

How could we not have figured that one?

Marley-Tom some people probably view in threaded mode as well, in that mode you'll be looking at single posts in which case you would just cut-n-paste from the address bar on the post in question.

Thanks mbm. I prefer the mode where the posts go in time posted order all on one page (or multiple pages if it gets that far). What is that mode called?

Linear

EDIT: And then there's also a hybrid. I, much like yourself, prefer linear.

Thanks for the clear up. Linear just seems easier to follow the flow of a discussion IMO.

Sorry, I was away. Had to take my vacuum apart. Actually, NAVYPOLICE taught me most of the tricks of this Forum before I even started Posting here. I liked reading his posts and started PMing him.

Besides I knew that you and BucFanTom1 were smart enough to figure it out on your own. I wasn't.

I wonder what happened to Smizzy?
